Tiny Skies

Half asleep when i opened this, and pottering about was all I did. No enemies. No timer shouting at me. Just a good sky and somewhere to walk. Stayed past when I meant to, so call that a win.

The craft is real and the world looks lovely, and then it dawns on you that looking is the entire verb. A looming apocalypse is a promise. It never once pressed on anything I was doing... it just loomed. Sessions finish early because there's nothing to take hold of. Beautiful, yes, and I want it to be about something before I tell anybody to give it an evening.

What a shape for a premise. Small world, an ending sat somewhere out on the horizon, and nothing in your hands to fight it with, so all you can do is go and see the place before it stops existing. It's built to be shared rather than fought over. Normally that flattens the atmosphere out of a game. Here it mostly makes it deeper.

Wandering a small world while something awful creeps toward it turns out to be a wierdly good combination. Nothing chases you, nothing keeps score. The apocalypse puts an edge on the calm rather than spoiling it.

Really good job, feels great to play and the vibe is really cool. Music was also a perfect fit.

Lovely to sit in for the length of a kettle boil, and then I had seen it. The looming apocalypse registers as mood, not pressure, so there was never a reason to hurry and never a reason to stay put either. Proof that a calm shared space can look this good? Sure, fine. Something I would open again... not yet.
